Metallographic Cut-Off Wheels
Metallographic Cut-Off Wheels for Abrasive Sectioning
RECORE metallographic cut-off wheels are designed for controlled abrasive sectioning of ferrous metals and heat-treated components with hardness levels from approximately HRC 15 to HRC 65. Used with a suitable metallographic cutter and coolant, the wheels produce a clean section with reduced heat damage and deformation, helping preserve the sample for grinding, polishing and microstructural examination. Standard diameters include 250, 305 and 355 mm with a 32 mm bore, with wheel specifications selected according to material type, hardness and sample cross-section.
Key Benefits
- Formulated for metallographic sample preparation rather than general production sawing.
- Clean cut faces help reduce the amount of subsequent grinding and polishing.
- Sharp cutting action and coolant-compatible construction help control thermal damage.
- Wheel selection can be matched to metal hardness from HRC 15 to HRC 65.
- Available in common 250, 305 and 355 mm formats for laboratory abrasive cutters.
- Application-specific formulations can be developed for hardened steel, stainless steel and general ferrous materials.
Applications & Materials
Suitable for metallurgical analysis, quality control, failure analysis, heat-treatment verification and production inspection. Typical samples include quenched steel, automotive crankshafts, gears, tool steel, machine guide components and other ferrous parts where the cut surface must remain representative of the original material.
Compatible Machines
Use on enclosed metallographic abrasive cutting machines with a suitable coolant system. Wheel diameter, flange size, spindle speed and coolant delivery must match the machine manufacturer’s instructions.
